Sole East

The Sole East resort is an sunny surf lodge on the glacial hills of Montauk, NY. Renovated in 2007, the owners have converted an old motel in to an all day backyard pool party. I decided to pay this place another visit after a solid Labor Day weekend in 2009.

This year I had a tough time relaxing at the resort. There grounds were littered with what seemed like hundreds of 3-4yo kids. The lodging is bare but really the motel's best asset is its restaurant and bar. Creative drinks and tasty food kept us from early check out. In the morning $14 gets you unlimited continental breakfast with pool side waiter service. For lunch the menu offers New England staples with Mediterranean influence. Lobster rolls sliders, tuna tar tar, farfalle with lamb ragu, hummus and goat cheese pizza are all awesome. It's typical Montauk but its well executed.
